I am a mathematician and faculty member in the Mathematics and Statistics Department at Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore. I have my B.S. in mathematics from the University of Iowa and my M.S. and Ph.D in mathematics from the University of Oregon. My dissertation is entitled “Generalized Inverses in Certain Banach Algebras” advised by Dr. Bruce Barnes.
My current research is in applying my functional analysis background to numerical analysis; specifically finite-element methods for solving systems of differential equations in collaboration with Dr. Christos Xenophontos (University of Cyprus). I have designed and taught a course in MATLAB for our mathematics and statistics majors and I now have a published textbook Programming Mathematics Using MATLAB.
I have developed an online course for Applied Calculus, a calculus course with a business focus.
We originally used Applied Calculus, Editions 5 and 6 by Hughes-Hallett et al. For the Summer 2020 course we piloted a more economical option due to COVID-19: Applied Calculus by Calaway et. al. (2014). Since this is an OER (Open Educational Resource), we got their permission to modify and add our own content that was used in the Summer 2021 online course was finalized for the Fall 2021 semester.
